A New Gallery Opens in Adams Morgan

The citywide FotoWeek DCphotography festival last fall was a huge success.  Building on its popularity,  FotoDC promised to become a year-round organization in 2011. As part of that pledge, it has just opened a photography-focused gallery in Adams Morgan.

FotoDC has moved into 1838 Columbia Rd. NW — the old Design Within Reach space- with 2500 square feet of space to fill with exhibits. An added treat is that the  library of photo books that was available to the public during FotoWeek will also be available all year in the space.

The first exhibition  which opened on July 22nd,  is entitled  “Speaking to Silence, An Exhibition on Communities Displaced, Dissidents Repressed, and Childhood Betrayed,” featuring the work of three documentary photographers, including Marcus Bleasdale; Platon; and Stephanie Sinclair, who’ll present a multimedia work.

The exhibition will be up for six weeks, and in the meantime, FOTO DC is working on the next show, which is expected will mark the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, with photos from Ground Zero by a photographer and steelworker,  Hale Gurland.

The hours for the gallery will be Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays noon-6 p.m.and by appointment Mondays through Wednesdays.  After all, even the most enthusiastic first time home buyer needs to take a break from looking at condos for sale in Logan Circle or Dupont Circle. What better way to spend a summer afternoon than in a new gallery?

There are so many wonderful things to do in the Washington DC metro area. Whether you are a Washington native who has lived in Chevy Chase your entire life or you are relocating to DC and clueless about the city, I hope you will come back to this site and read about new events happening in DC.  As a DC native, I love this region – showing home buyers properties from McLean to Kenwood Forest to Potomac and back to Burke.   It is a wonderful area with lots  of fabulous things going on from early morning to the wee small hours! Check us out!
